Several organizations are coming to the area on Thursday, combining their voices and efforts to make their case for a $20 minimum wage in Wisconsin. The gathering is called the Sheboygan Living Wage Coalition Town Hall with State Representative Joe Sheehan and will take place from 6-8 PM Thursday at Emil Mazey Hall on Superior Avenue.
The goal of the Living Wage Coalition, which launched on Labor Day 2025 and has organized Thursday’s event, is for Wisconsin lawmakers to introduce and adopt comprehensive living wage legislation. The coalition cites data from the MIT Living Wage Calculator that shows that $21.88 per hour is the actual wage required for a single adult with no dependents to be able to afford basic needs in the state of Wisconsin. They’re aiming to raise the minimum wage to $20 per hour by 2030, and to index the minimum to inflation so it does not lose its value.
Besides Representative Sheehan, speakers include Peter Rickman, President of the Milwaukee Area Service and Hospitality Workers Union; William Walter, the Executive Director of Our Wisconsin Revolution; and various community members relating their stories of trying to live on less than $20 a day.
