The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development on Wednesday said that unemployment rates mostly rose in municipalities and metropolitan areas in July, but only fractionally as a rule, while counties were pretty evenly divided by gains, losses and unchanged rates.
For the Sheboygan Metropolitan Statistical Area, the unemployment rate was 3% in July, down one-tenth from June, but up two-tenths compared to July last year. Those results are seen amid a workforce of 63,900 (not seasonally adjusted) that has seen declines of 200 since June, and of 300 since last July. Applying seasonal adjustments that remove predictable, recurring seasonal fluctuations from the numbers, the workforce of 63,100 was down 100 from June but up 300 compared to July of 2025.
The City of Sheboygan experienced a 3.1% unemployment rate in July, down one-tenth from June, but up one-tenth compared to last July, giving Sheboygan the 7th lowest unemployment rate among Wisconsin’s 35 largest cities.
Sheboygan County experienced a 3.0% unemployment rate this past July, down one-tenth from June and up two-tenths since July of 2025, and is tied with Monroe County for the 14th lowest rate in the state.
