A local brewer is paying homage to a Wisconsin music legend while supporting development of upcoming music acts by hosting a Battle of the Bands.
The locus of Sheboygan’s 3 Sheeps’ celebration is its Wisconsinitis brand which, each year, highlights and celebrates a Wisconsin icon. For 2026, that honor goes to Les Paul, also known as “The Wizard of Waukesha”. That informal title was gained considering his role as a musician, inventor, and recording pioneer who is widely recognized as the inventor of both multi-track recording but, maybe better known, as the inventor as the solid-body electric guitar that’s ubiquitous in modern music. The 2026 Wisconsinitis campaign will also serve as a fundraiser benefiting the Les Paul Foundation which supports music education, recording, innovation and medical research related to hearing.
The Battle of the Bands campaign will take place from Memorial Day through Labor Day with submissions for the preliminary battles open from May 11th through the 25th. Preliminary rounds will be held in Milwaukee, Madison, Appleton, and virtually online, with final competition scheduled at the 3 Sheeps Taproom August 15 at 5 PM.
