BEIJING, Oct 14 (Reuters) – China’s producer prices rose at a faster pace in September while consumer inflation edged up, official data showed on Wednesday, as higher oil and commodity prices added to upstream price pressures.
The producer price index increased 5% from a year earlier, according to National Bureau of Statistics data, up from 3.8% in August and beating the estimated 4.5% rise in a Reuters poll.
The consumer price index (CPI) gained 0.9% year-on-year, compared with a 0.8% increase in August and came in below economists’ forecast for a 1% rise.
Month-on-month, CPI ticked up 0.2%, versus expectations for a 0.3% gain and a 0.4% increase in August.
