Anyone receiving calls from Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Deputy Zilke can be assured that his voice hasn’t changed – but someone else is pretending to be him in a scam operation now hitting Ozaukee County citizens.
Several instances of calls concerning missed jury duty and citation payments have been reported over the past week or so, all of them demanding payment over the phone to avoid arrest. That tactic, of course, checks all the boxes as a scam, and the Sheriff assures residents that they’re not in trouble unless they follow the scammers instructions, resulting in lost money and stolen personal information.
If you receive such a call, hang up immediately. You can also call the Sheriff’s Office to confirm whether you actually do have an issue to discuss with the real Deputy Zilke or another of the Sheriff’s staff.
