There’s a good chance that almost anyone living in east-central Wisconsin has benefited from the contributions of Marlin Tanck who passed away last Friday at his home at age 91.
Tanck’s many positions included that of Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the Sheboygan Area School District as well as contributions to the Manitowoc Area School District, and Marian College in Fond du Lac where he served as a Professor of Graduate Education and Director of Teacher Development.
Tanck served as Chairman of the Manitowoc County Democratic Party in the 1960s, lobbied for passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and was instrumental in transitioning refugee students from Laos and Cambodia into the Manitowoc Area School District.
Later in Sheboygan, Tanck served on the board for the United Way, the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra, helped establish the Sheboygan Youth Symphony, and supported coordination of Sheboygan Public School Programs with the Lakeshore Technical College and the John Michael Kohler Arts Center.
A private celebration of life will be held at the Sheboygan Yacht Club, and he will be laid to rest at Wildwood Cemetery in Sheboygan. The Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg is in charge of arrangements.
