On a day where the Brewers honored Hank Aaron, his wife was in the booth for the Andrew Vaughn home run.

A LOT going on during last night’s Brewer/Mets game. First things first:

Second things second: Miz made his return to the mound for the first time in 13 days last night. Carved them UP in the first inning, but the velocity and mechanics looked a little janky by the time he got to the 3rd and 4th inning. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about, and Miz in his postgame certainly didn’t seem worried. After two weeks off, it’s almost like they’re going to have to do a mini-spring training to build him back up again.

Third things third: COOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPP:

Kid is figuring things out VERY quickly. 3-hit night last night, stole a bag, and continues to play sparkling defense at short.

Fourth things fourth: The original video at the top of this blog was AWESOME. Yesterday was the 50-year anniversary of the true home run king, Hank Aaron’s, final home run. There’s a new mural that the Brewers dedicated to Hank:

And they had his wife, Billye, in town to celebrate. She joined the booth in the 3rd inning when Vaughn went deep, and the joy she added to BA’s call was tremendous. Heartwarming content. 10/10, no notes.

Fifth things fifth: I feel bad for Freddy Peralta. Maybe that makes me soft, but I do. I’m an empath, sue me. Coming off of 8 good seasons in Milwaukee, including leading the NL in wins and finishing top 5 in Cy Young balloting last season, he made his first trip back to Am Fam Field since the Brewers traded him to New York this past offseason. It’s been a tough year for Freddy, and it didn’t get any better last night. He got tagged for 7 earned runs, and his season record now sits at 5-9 with an ERA above 5.

Now it’s no secret the Brewers are going to be looking to add affordable arms before the August 3rd trade deadline, and since the Mets season went sideways faster than a David Lynch film, they’re probably looking to sell off veteran players who they don’t have signed to long term deals.

I realize after Freddy’s showing last night, the appetite some Brewer fans have to bring him back is about the same as their appetite for the diarrhea lettuce that’s making the rounds. BUT, if there’s one thing I have faith in in Wisconsin Sports, it’s Chris Hook and the Brewer Pitching Lab. I have ZERO doubt that after two weeks, Hook and the lab would have Freddy fixed and looking like his old self.

Certainly there are bigger names out there that the Brewers could get, but I can’t imagine Freddy would cost more than a DEEP prospect and maybe paying off the remainder of his contract for the season. Just spitballin’.

Sixth things sixth: Joseph Ortiz! Hitting .300 with 4 home runs since his move to 3rd. Not too shabby.
