The Sheboygan Common Council heard from many residents opposing data centers in our area. The measure before the Council last night was not to take action, but rather to decide whether to refer the measure regarding a moratorium on data centers to the plan commission.
Alderman Heideman expressed concern that the Council had not considered the issue from all sides. Alder Grawien answered that the moratorium would give the council the time to do just that, saying that “this pause is meant specifically for us to do the dirty work, to sit down and figure out what would a data center in our community look like.”
In the end, the majority of the Council voted to refer the measure to the plan commission, with Alders Mitchell, Menzer, and Heideman voting against.
