The Sheboygan Common Council is set to consider a proposal which would put a temporary halt to data centers greater than 10,000 square feet. According to the proposal, the purpose is to allow officials adequate time to create reasonable regulations and to respond by regulation amendments reflecting anticipated changes to state law regarding the centers. A similar ordinance, establishing an 18-month ban, was passed last week by the Manitowoc County Board of Supervisors,
If passed by the Sheboygan Common Council, the temporary zoning moratorium would be in place for 1 year. The proposal does allow several exceptions, including data centers that are already in place. The proposal will be considered at tonight’s common council meeting—it starts at 6pm in the 3rd floor of City Hall.
