The federal government is directing $20 million to be used for infrastructure updates at the Port of Manitowoc. The funds were announced on Friday by US Senator Tammy Baldwin, who promoted the expenditure as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and annual funding legislation.
The project upgrades the port so it can handle grain shipments more efficiently, increasing storage space, updating equipment, and expanding rail connections to make transportation faster and smoother.
In making the announcement, Baldwin said that “Investing in our ports is an investment in our Made inWisconsin economy. Our ports keep Wisconsin goods moving to market, allow our small businesses and farmers to compete on a global stage, and support local economies across the state.”
The Manitowoc project is funded through the US Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration’s Port Infrastructure Development Program.
