Sheboygan Police say that an incident on Sheboygan’s south side that required detours has now been resolved and traffic flow is being restored as of 5:15 AM. The original story is below.
Sheboygan Police have erected barricades to close two very busy roads this morning. South Taylor Drive has been closed from Washington Avenue to the South Taylor Frontage Road; and Washington Avenue is closed between South 31st Street and I-43. Full closure was expected by 5 AM, and police strongly advise finding alternate routes.
Social media reports from the SPD around midnight indicated a person in a mental health crisis at the South Taylor Drive McDonald’s parking lot and were advising the public to avoid the area out of respect and safety. The road closures were announced shortly before 4:30 AM.
The City DPW and County Highway Department have erected barricades, and detoured westbound Washington Avenue traffic to northbound S. Taylor Drive, while eastbound traffic will be detoured on County Highway “A” or to southbound I-43. The northbound I-43 exit onto Washington Avenue / Highway 28 is closed.
Local business access will be available on Washington Avenue west of S. 32nd Street for American Orthodontics and the businesses on the Taylor Frontage Road.
