Man! I was literally just laying around the other day and said to myself, “self,” I says, “I really wish one of the greatest Intercontinental Champions in WWF history would come out and say the Brewers are going to win the World Series this season, if that were to happen I’d have no choice but to place a big ol’ slab of entertainment points on the Brewers to do just that.” Then, a few moments later, I’m scrolling through Twitter and the Honky Tonk Man is telling MLB Network that he thinks the Brewers will win the World Series?? What luck! Written in the stars!
In all sincerity, if you are someone who likes to dabble in baseball futures, the over/under on Brewer season wins is still set at 82.5. They have hit the over every single season since 2016 (with the exception of the 60-game pandemic year which we all know did not count). They won 93 games last year! Even if you factor in some regression without Willy Adames or Devin Williams, that would be a pretty steep dropoff from 93 to 82. 83-79 cashes that ticket!
They’re also +250 to win the division (Cubs are the favorites at +150) and even money (-105) to make the playoffs. They are +4000 to win the World Series, and since we’re taking them to do that on the Honky Tonk Man’s advice, we may as well take them at +2000 to win the NL pennant. So if you put $100 on each of those individual bets, you’ll cash $6,450 on $500 worth of wagers. Thank you Honky Tonk!
Side note: I once got an autograph from Honky Tonk at Big Wheel Skate Center in Sheboygan in the late ’90s. His run in the WWF was well over and you could see the defeat in his eyes. He had been headlining major arenas less than 10 years ago and that night he was performing for about 150 people, half of which were waiting for the show to be done so they could do a couples skate. He asked me for my name, signed a photo, ‘To Don-‘ and that was the extent of our interaction. Not a bad night!
PS: Absolutely electric:
Double PS: As expected, an emotional open on the radio call for the first Spring Training broadcast. Jeff Levering nailed it. I can’t imagine how hard that was to keep his composure.
