The Friends of Kohler Andrae State Park, a group that helps maintain and improve one of the most heavily-used parks in Wisconsin, is getting some help from the State of Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has announced that the Friends are one of 24 nonprofit organizations that will share a total of nearly $375,000 ($373,900) in Stewardship grants, while leveraging an additional $392,700 in matching contributions and $4.2 million in total project costs.
Funds announced Wednesday are from the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship fund created in 1989 to preserve natural communities, protect water quality and fisheries, and expand opportunities for outdoor recreation.
The DNR said that the State recognizes the important role Friends Groups play in meeting the development and restoration needs of state properties. Friends of Kohler Andrae will use their share of the funds towards Phase-III of the Beach Parking Lots Safety Path.
