A Sheboygan fifth-grader has been awarded the first prize in her category by the Wisconsin DNR in their ‘Keep Wildlife Wild” poster contest. Belle Manula of Sheboygan took first place with her entry, which showcases an American Robin poised to feed her three nestlings in a tree that features the contest’s theme: “Safe in Their Home” on one of its branches.
The Keep Wildlife Wild program was begun 10 years ago to raise awareness about the importance of preserving animals’ wild natures. The poster contest’s goal is to create a poster that teaches the importance of enjoying and observing wildlife in the wild and not keeping wildlife in homes or as pets. Fourth, fifth and sixth graders across Wisconsin were invited to submit posters that spread the word about keeping all wildlife healthy and, most importantly, wild.
Belle Manula was the only winner in east-central Wisconsin among the three grade levels. Second place among fifth-graders went to Ishanvi Bansal from Sun Prairie, while third place was awarded to Drew Schroeder from Glendale.
