Live look at NFL Twitter and Taylor Swift Twitter all sounding off on the same subject matter on Sunday afternoon:
You want to talk about two groups of people that have VERY little in common, those two fit the bill. Maybe a SLIVER on the Venn Diagram of mutual interests.
But there we all were on Sunday afternoon. Sitting in the same room together, trying to figure out how we all got there.
Before we go any further, let me just make sure I get this added to the blog before I hear it in the comment section:
Nobody has been having a bigger day on social media than ‘WHO CARES!’ guy as it relates to this story. A Taylor Swift/NFL story might be ‘WHO CARES’ guy’s opus. He’s never going to get more likes than he’s getting on a Taylor Swift story on Facebook. We thank him for his service.
Anyway, rumors have been running wild for a few weeks that Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift have started courting. It seemed kind of fabricated at first. Kelce heard she was single and shot his shot on the podcast he hosts with his brother. Honestly it just felt like a couple of brothers joking around and chopping it up. Well, that started a dialog, and then the pop culture world stood still as Taylor popped up at Arrowhead on Sunday afternoon, sitting next to Kelce’s mom in a box and getting a front row seat to the continued demolition of the Chicago Bears.
Huh. Maybe this isn’t all an act? Could be some meat on the bone??
Anyway, this is the definition of the ‘Taylor Effect’: Kelce’s jersey sales have gone Gamestop stock-parabolic, rocketing up 400% in 24 hours. Nuts. I assume this is thousands and thousands of Swiftie’s all snatching up a jersey that they’re probably going to light on fire in a Tik Tok video when these two inevitably go their separate ways in 2-4 weeks. Still, that number blew me away when I read it this morning.
So, we’ll see where we go from here. Is this is legit relationship? Is it just PR?? Taylor does have an album on the way later this year. Not that she would really need helping selling it. Perhaps this is going to be the start of an All-American romance between a pop star and a football star. The world awaits their next move, and ‘WHO CARES!’ guy lurks in the shadows waiting to unleash one of these in a comment section near you:
PS: Admittedly, I was at the forefront of country stations that started to phase out Taylor music in 2012. She was making a turn to full-on pop, the country audience was starting to turn on her, it just felt like it was time. I have to admit though, I recently listened to the Midnights album front to back, that is ELITE pop music. Like all-time great type of stuff. That, combined with the tour she just put together, might put her in a ‘Mount Rushmore’ of pop artists conversation. I have retired from the Taylor-hater community officially. She’s not country, but if you can’t admit/admire what she’s done in pop, you either don’t have ears or are hating just to hate.
