Lord have mercy. I’m torn here. On the one hand, good for Ric Flair. 73 years old and still able to do what he loves, and what people love to watch him do: Style and Profile.
On the other hand: Ric Flair is going to die in a wrestling ring in Nashville. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has seem the Mickey Rourke classic, The Wrestler, but this feels like the real life version of Randy ‘The Ram’ Robinson. That movie follows a former wrestling star who is forced to keep wrestling on the Indie circuit in order to keep making money. Spoiler Alert: He keeps going and going and going until he literally dies of a heart attack in the ring. I think the movie is supposed to be loosely based on Jake The Snake Roberts, but really it could be just about any wrestler from the 80’s. Including our man, The Nature Boy Ric Flair.
So, I’m in a bit of a pickle. As an adult, I’ve grown a real appreciation for Flair as maybe the greatest of all time. I didn’t have that appreciation for him when I was a kid. He was a bad guy and I was a Hulk Hogan kid through and through. And don’t even get me started on the lead up to Wrestlemania 8 when Flair tried to besmirch Miss Elizabeth’s good name by claiming she cheated on Macho Man with him. I had a hard time sleeping after he leaked these photoshopped pictures to WWE Magazine:

Blasphemous and deceitful!
But as an adult (grow up, Peter Pan), I learned to love him. His mic work is unbelievable. His trash talk is without peer. I even wore Ric Flair socks on my wedding day, and a Ric Flair robe at the reception:

Is my hair thinning? Might be.
Anyway, we’ll see what happens in July. If you watched Flair’s ESPN 30 for 30, you know that he’s had more than one close brush with death. I hate to do this, but I think there’s at least a 25% chance something sad happens at this event. Then again, that’s probably how Ric would want to go. In the squared circle, at the fairgrounds in Nashville.
PS: Ric Flair Cameo is still $500 for a message. I haven’t been able to bring myself to pull the trigger, but he is literally the only person I would pay for do to anything on Cameo.
Double PS: ^Alright I might shell out $500 for Hasselhoff too.
Triple PS: And Dog the Bounty Hunter. Dog, Flair, Hoff. That’s IT.
