Well if you don’t think this dugout bell is going to turn the offense around, then I don’t know what to tell you. You can break down every sort of baseball analytic you want; launch angle, OBP, BABP. whatever, this bell is going to ignite this offense more than any batting practice or film session will. Because if there’s one thing I know about the Brewers, it’s that when they have a ‘thing,’ the season goes well:
2008: Untuck’em
2011: Beast Mode
2018: Lo Cain’s ‘Show me the love.’
2021: Claws Up
So you can show me every piece of evidence you want that the offense still is not well, but all I know is this: They installed a bell to ring in the dugout and then immediately scored 18 runs. That’s science.
Also: Do we actually have an everyday first baseman?? Based on his play last season, and in the playoffs, we all hoped that Rowdy might be the guy. But the plan still seemed like a platoon heading into the season. Well after last night, he’s the man at least for the time being. A grand slam, a two run shot, and a 2-RBI double that missed being his second grand slam of the night by about 8 inches. He’s hitting .260 with 7 taters and 21 driven in with an OPS over .900. There’s a long way to go, but this team has been searching for a first baseman since Prince Fielder left over a decade ago. Enter a big ol’ hoss named Rowdy. He might be it.
PS: I didn’t want to jinx him by putting it in the body of the blog, everybody knows the ‘PS’ is a jinx-free zone, but Yeli is looking better and better.
Double PS: You know what else I love about this bell? The on-air extras you can add to it. ‘Ring My Bell,’ ‘Hells Bells,’ ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls,’ and this:
‘PEOPLE KEPT RINGING THE BELL!’
