Freddy Peralta had his glove confiscated for it being too light of color 👀

‘You know what we need more of baseball? Umpires involved the action. Let’s have them check pitchers intermittently throughout the game to make sure they’re not using sticky-tack on the ball. That should also help pace of play!’- Rob Manfred at a meeting two weeks ago.
I mean what an absolute clown show last night for Major League Baseball. Yesterday was DAY TWO of their quest to crackdown on sticky-tack that pitchers may or may not be using to get a better grip/spin rate on the baseball. It’s no secret that offense has been down across the league, there are only 3 current National League players batting over .300, and this is a response to it. But there’s got to be a better way than this:
This is actually absurd. Max Scherzer just got checked AGAIN in the middle of the inning and is about to pull his pants down to get these people to leave him alone. pic.twitter.com/v6OXMpPOBn

Max Scherzer got checked THREE TIMES last night. In the above video he’s getting checked in the middle of an inning! This led to a stare down between Scherzer and Phillies manager, Joe Girardi, with Girardi ultimately getting ejected.
And it was only a matter of time before we had a pitcher completely drop trough while undergoing a stick-tack check:

I mean this is absurd. It’s also kind of entertaining if we’re honest, but the entertainment value is going to wear of quickly. It has a lot in common with the B93 morning show in that regard.
My guess is this lasts about a week before we go back to business as usual. Because you can’t have videos like these circulating all night for the rest of the season. But it is example #324324 of baseball not being able to get out of it’s own way. A hallmark of the Manfred Era.
PS: Harris would be in big time trouble during this crackdown:
Double PS: Another dominant start from Freddy last night, by the way. How good does that 5 year, $15 million dollar deal Stearns inked him to before last season look now? The Vogelback injury obviously hurts, my guess is Ryan Braun has seen ‘Stearns’ pop up on his caller ID a few times this morning, but it was nice to see Yeli go yard last night. We call this home run, ‘I WAS IN THE POOL! I WAS IN THE POOL!’
