Live look at me listening to that bat crack over and over and over again yesterday afternoon:
I’m going to say it, that home run sound off of his bat is sexual (sorry Mom). And that sound accompanied by an actual crowd roar is even better. Yelich, by the way, is 6 for his last 9 (nice) with a couple of home runs, and overall has been absolutely RAKING in Cactus League games.
As a matter of fact, the whole offense has been cooking during spring training. Now what does that mean for the regular season? Probably nothing. But one thing I am encouraged by is the fact that almost every player who was on the struggle bus last season at the plate has been killing the baseball in spring training. Omar Narvaez, Avi Garcia, Hiura, Yeli, they’ve all been making solid contact and hitting home runs regularly. Again, everyone’s average is going to be .000 in 7 days, but as the late, great, Yogi Berra once said, ‘baseball is ninety percent mental, the other half is physical.’ I think just about every one of those players got off to a slow start in last year’s prorated season, and they never got on track. So to shake loose from that, and prove that they can still make hard contact and hit for power, has to be a relief.
Add in the fact that they’re on a more normal schedule this year, and there will actually be some fans in the stands, and I think you’re going to see a much improved offense. The NL Central seems pretty wide open and the staff at Strange Brew just put a sizable wager on the over of 82.5 total wins. Let’s go!
PS: The Brewers released a set of rules for people attending games at Miller Park this year and as you might expect, there are going to be mask and social distance rules in place. In addition they are cracking down on carry in’s and the size of the purse (European Carry All) you may want to take in. Of course the comment sections on these stories were full of people who were upset about the new rules, but I could not care less. I haven’t been to a baseball game since August of 2019. You could require me to dress like Dustin Hoffman in Outbreak, I don’t care, I’ll do whatever I have to do to watch a baseball game and eat an $8 brat:
