Ramones drummer Tommy Ramone is born as Tamás Erdélyi in Budapest Hungary. He grows up in Queens, NY. 

1961

Queensryche bassist Eddie Jackson is born in Robstown, TX.

1977

“Walk This Way” is a Top 10 single. The Aerosmith song is inspired by a line in Mel Brooks’ comedy Young Frankenstein.

1991

Pearl Jam enters a Seattle recording studio to cut a handful of demos. These tracks eventually help them land a deal with Epic Records.

2007

The Paths We Choose, written by Sully Erna, ships to bookstores. In the memoir, the Godsmack frontman recalls his youthful experiences with drugs, crime and spent dreams.

2008

Nickelback, Green Day, U2, Foo Fighters, and White Stripes are featured on the 21-track ‘08 Grammy Nominees compilation album.

After taunting a security guard Jim Morrison of The Doors is busted in Las Vegas on charges of vagrancy and public drunkenness.

2004

According to a magazine poll, Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath is voted the worlds greatest heavy metal guitarist.

2006

Long standing issues cause keyboardist Eddie Hawrysch to part ways with the Black Crowes.

Live lead guitarist Chad Taylor, bassist Patrick Dahlheimer and rhythm guitarist Adam Kowalczyk are passengers on an airplane that makes an emergency landing at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport following reports of smoke in the cabin. No injuries are reported.

2008

Papa Roach announce, via an online post, that they have parted ways with Dave Buckner. The drummer bailed on the group's '07 tour to enter a rehab facility.

2009

Rise Against s named 2008's Most Animal-Friendly Band by U.S. animal-rights organization PETA.  Weezer's song "Pig" nabs the Best Animal Rights Song prize.

Lynyrd Skynyrd pianist Billy Powell dies at his residence in Orange Park, FL. He was 56. Powell, who joined Skynyrd in ’72, survived the band’s tragic ’77 plane crash.

After reading this you may want to think twice the next time you get a friend request on Facebook.

Becaus your brain is only capable of handling of max of 150 actual friendships, according to a professor at Oxford University.

Our ability to only handle that many has been the same throughout history and among different societies.

He said: "The interesting thing is that you can have 1500 friends online but when you actually look at traffic on sites, you see people maintain the same inner circle of around 150 people that we observe in the real world."

The professor found that the brain's neocortex only lets humans manage 150 friends no matter how many people they are in touch with. The neocortex processes language and conscious thought.

The Offspring closes out the '04 edition of the ESPN Winter X Games with a free outdoor concert in Aspen, Colorado.


The Osbournes publish their book “Ordinary People: Our Story” which chronicles the lives of Ozzy, Sharon and the kids.

Guitarist Eddie, or Edward, Van Halen is born in Holland.

1961

Cinderella vocalist, Tom Keifer, enters the world.

1995

Soundgarden is named the Best Metal Band in Rolling Stone magazine’s ’95 Music Awards. The group nails both the Readers and Critic’s Polls.

2001

There are serious injuries and at least one death when Limp Bizkit perform at the Big Day Out Festival in Sydney, Australia. The group delays their performance for 15 minutes while police and festival staff try to sort out and rein in the mosh pit chaos. A later investigation places blame squarely on the concert promoters for not providing adequate security but also singles out Bizkit frontman Fred Durst for not taking the situation seriously.

2005

Members of Papa Roch, P.O.D., A Perfect Circle, Trapt and Static-X perform on the tsunami-relief charity single "Forever In Our Hearts." Proceeds from the track, which is sold via iTunes, benefit the Linkin Park-established Music For Relief organization.

It’s announced that drummer Ryan Vikedal has left Nickleback after five years.

2008

The first of a two-part Jimi Hendrix exhibit premieres at Seattle's Experience Music Project.

Almost twelve years after its release, the debut album from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers goes gold.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers cover of the Ohio Player’s classic "Loverollercoaster" peaks at #20 on the U.S. pop chart. Six months later, the single cracks the U.K. Top 10.

The DVD of Metallica's Some Kind of Monster documentary is released.

Breaking Benjamin announce they’ve added drummer Chad Szeliga.

Guns N' Roses pick up a couple of American Music Awards.

The Offspring's Ignition album is certified Gold. 

2004

Metallica conducts a satellite press conference for the launch of their “Some Kind Of Monster" documentary at the Sundance Film Festival.

2005

The SnoCore Tour with headliner Chevelle kicks off in Vail, CO. with Crossfade, Helmet and Future Leaders of the World.

2008

Linkin Park's Music for Relief charity funds the planting of 100,000 trees to help the environment. The donation goes to the American Forests organization on behalf of the band's LP Underground fan club.

2009

3 Doors Down start their tour in Reading, PA. Hinder performs on select dates.

AC/DC is #2 on Forbes magazine's Top-Selling Musicians of 2008.  Metallica, Kid Rock and Nickelback also make the Top 10.

Following the departure of guitarist Terry Balsamo, who left to join Evanescence, Cold singer Scooter Ward insists his group will continue. Amy Lee adds she’s sorry for implying earlier that Balsamo’s absence meant the end of Cold.

The MTV reality series "Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen & Dave" premieres. The series gives a behind-the-scenes look at Jane`s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro`s wedding to actress Carmen Electra.

Courtney Love is sued for breach-of-contract by the California law firm that represented her in a two-year legal battle against her former record label. 

2005

System of a Down kicks off a two year tour to support their Mesmerize/Hypnotize CD in Auckland, New Zealand, at the annual Big Day Out festival.

2009

Five Finger Death Punch announce that guitarist Darrell Roberts has left the group and been replaced by Jason Hook, who previously played with Alice Cooper and Vince Neil.
