SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – The first death of someone in their 30s attributable to COVID-19 was reported Tuesday by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health, one of two that occurred since Monday’s update. The other victim was in the 80+ range. Of the 23 persons now deceased, one was in their 30s, one in their 40s, two in their 50, four in their 60s, seven in their 70s and eight were 80 or older.
Only one of the 223 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed within the past 24 hours was a KMCI inmate. That institution has now recorded 821 cases in all. County active cases rose by 216 to a new high of 890, and of those 26 are currently hospitalized. Those experiencing COVID-19 in ages 20 to 39 now account for 1,543…or 42.6%…of county cases, 3,839 in all. That amounts to 3.3% of our population. 4 more persons here recovered from their illnesses since Monday.
Weekend system maintenance and upgrades done to the Wisconsin Electronic Disease Surveillance System – or WEDSS – were expected to affect COVID-19 statistics for several days, and even as Tuesday’s numbers reflect the expected upward offset in positive cases, the 4,591 new cases in the state was a stark reminder of the presence of the coronavirus pandemic in Wisconsin. With 13,661 tests returned in all, that’s a positive percentage of 33.6%…again, a likely statistical oddity as the percent positive per person on Tuesday was quoted as 21.7% – not much different than the previous day. 178,482 in Wisconsin have now had the coronavirus, or about 3% of the state’s estimated 2020 population. 33 more persons have died of COVID-19 since Monday, raising the state death toll to 1,633. 218 more persons were hospitalized for treatment of COVID-19, setting the hospitalization rate at 5.3% of all positive cases. As of yesterday, 1,172 persons in Wisconsin were hospitalized with the coronavirus, with 302 of those in the ICU. Another 201 were hospitalized and awaiting test results, and 450 persons were on ventilators.
Considering the recent surge in numbers, the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health is recommending against the participation of door-to-door trick or treating. Residents are also reminded that free testing will be available to anyone exhibiting symptoms or having close contact with a confirmed positive Wednesday between 10 AM and 6 PM at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth. If you can’t make it then, Friday will be your next opportunity – same hours.
