Click this link for the video, it’s not on Youtube and I can’t figure out how to embed non-Youtube videos in our new blogging format (it’s a whole thing, big time First World Problem), so if you wanted to watch the ceremony, it’s right there.
Anyway, pretty cool story here about a Vietnam War Hero getting his medals replaced by the local PD in Spotsylvania, Virginia. Apparently Lieutenant Corporal Thomas Faleskie had his medals stolen during a burglary last year while he and his wife were on vacation (Sticky Bandits?). Well the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Department tracked down the burglars, but couldn’t locate the whereabouts of his medals.
Turns out, the lead detective on the case, F. Corona, is a retired Marine, was able to get a collection going at the office to pay for replacement medals, which led to the picture/ceremony above.
Unlreated/kind of related: What are the odds on the detective’s name being ‘Corona’ in 2020? And how annoying has that been for him at the office since this whole pandemic started? Got to be up there with being named Mike when the Geico-camel commercial came out a few years ago, or being anyone poor soul named ‘Karen’ today.
Anyway, I think we’ve had a healthy amount of these ‘Feel Good’ stories on the blog over the years, but I think I’m going to make a concerted effort going forward to get one up a week. Just to spread a little positivity into people’s news feeds. Much like Detective Corona spread it around Spotyslyvania (ZING!).
PS: Anytime I think of a crime being solved, I think of this Parks and Rec clip:
