If it’s the first weekend in August, then it must be time for the Sheboygan Jaycees Brat Days Festival at Kiwanis Park this Friday and Saturday. The festival continues a tradition that’s been around since 1953 and which has taken several forms since then.
The latest is simpler than the original form when every neighborhood bar had grills sending savory smoke into the air and tens of thousands crowded into the downtown. These days everything is in one place: free music, carnival rides, a marketplace, the brat eating contest and, of course, plenty of food for all including bratwurst from principal sponsor – Johnsonville.
Activities run Friday from 5 until 11 PM, and Saturday a full 12 hours from 11 AM until 11 PM. More information is available at brat-days.com.
