The mother of Elijah Vue will have new legal representation while on trial for his death. Katrina Baur made that request which met opposition from the State and the Public Defender’s Office, while her initial attorney, Amber Gratz, voiced concerns over the counselors who offered to take over defense. They are Attorneys Kirk Obear and Amanda Riek.
Manitowoc County Judge Anthony Lambrecht ruled in favor of Baur’s request while at the same time, shared concerns that a meeting by Attorney Obear and Associates with Baur in jail amounted to an attempt to sabotage the original attorney-client relationship. Lambrecht said that the Public Defender’s Office had begun searching for new counsel.
Baur and Jesse Vang are charged in the death of 3-year-old Elija Vue in 2024.
