An atmosphere overloaded with heat and water vapor has generated thunderstorms riding the north ridge of the heat dome responsible for our heat wave. Accordingly a Severe Thunderstorm Watch was put into effect between 11AM and 4 PM today.
Storms originated in southern Minnesota and have been traversing central Wisconsin toward Lake Winnebago and Green Bay. A midday “supercell” thunderstorm moving through Fond du Lac County at noon threatened to maintain strength and move through Sheboygan County before 2 PM.
Northern Sheboygan County was under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning earlier this morning, and more storms could affect the area this afternoon with the most vulnerability to the north.
The Extreme Heat Warning continues in effect until 7 PM today, and forecasters are considering extending it through Thursday as well, with a decision on that to be made later today.
