YES. JOEY ORTIZ, LET IT OUT YOUNG MAN.
LOOK AT THIS REACTION pic.twitter.com/7cCC49bWJY
“F—– COME ON BALL! GO BALL! GO! YESSSSSSS! F–!”
What a moment last night. Check out that look in Ortiz’s eye when he’s trying to shout that ball over the wall in centerfield. Same look I get in my eye when the kitchen door opens at a restaurant and it’s about time for our appetizer to come out. Pure desire. Force of will. “COME ON CHEESE CURDS! COME ONNNNNN! CUUUURRRDDSSS!”
Look, I’m pulling for Joey O. It’s pretty clear that the team loves him, Murph loves him, by all accounts he seems like a great guy and teammate. As a fan, I’m not sure how long you can roll with a guy (even in a backup role) who is hitting sub-.200 and has a knack (or curse*?) for being up in big situations with runners on. But man, it would be sweet for him and the team if he can find a way to be more productive at the plate in his new circumstance.
Anyway, I felt like Clark Griswold when he launched that bomb last night:

Let’s hope he can keep it going!
*I’m sure any professional athlete would tell you they WANT to be in those situations, but with the way things went last year, and most of this season, Joey has to feel like the kid in class who doesn’t want to get called on but gets called on every day.
PS: Lane had a great call last night too:
“There is no one in that dugout that deserved it more… that the fans, that the players wanted it more for than Joey Ortiz”

Lane Grindle nailed the whole sequence https://t.co/ZuOWJN9mZK pic.twitter.com/lXXDxzUGMd
