(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 31, 2026 – It was a case of different night, same result for three-time and defending MMW Industrial Supply Midwest Sprint Car Association champion Ben Schmidt of Plymouth in the MSA’s first appearance of the 2026 season at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis., on Sunday, May 31.
One night after nailing down a flag-to-flag MSA A-main victory at The Plymouth Dirt Track, Schmidt did it again at Angell Park, leading all 25 laps on the way to a weekend sweep and his second main event win of the year.
Schmidt outpowered outside front row starter Bill Taylor of Boltonville to gain the lead of the 25-lap MSA main event in turn one of the opening lap. By lap 5, Schmidt had opened a full straightaway cushion over Taylor.
The 26-year veteran caught the back of the field on lap 6 as MSA rookie Carter Chevalier of Andover, Minn., who started third, moved past Taylor to take over second.
The first of three caution flags appeared on lap 15 when MSA rookie Weston Finke of Mayville stopped in turn three. Following the restart, Tristan Furseth of Cambridge made a big run to storm to take over second before another caution flag was displayed when Chevalier stopped along the backstretch on lap 18.
After the third and final caution flag appeared for debris on lap 19, Schmidt pulled away over the final six laps on the way to his 54th career MMW Industrial Supply MSA main event victory.
“I hadn’t been all that good here before I got my first win here a couple years ago,” Schmidt said. “The car was awesome tonight. It was spot on anywhere I put it on the track. It feels great to sweep the weekend at Plymouth last night and again here at Angell Park tonight. I need to thank my crew and all my sponsors for all their hard work and support to help make this all happen.”
Fourth starter Eric Wilke of Genesee placed second, Taylor was third, defending Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car champion Kevin Karnitz of West Bend finished fourth after starting eighth, and 10th starter T.J. Smith of Greenville completed the top five.
Furseth and Ion Stear of Hebron, Ill., crossed the finish line second and third, respectively. However, both Furseth and Stear were disqualified for a driveline component infraction.
T.J. Smith topped the 22-car MSA field to earn fast qualifier honors with a lap of 13.366 seconds.
