People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, best known by the acronym PETA, has announced its intentions to “raise a ruckus” in Sheboygan on Tuesday over what it called “Big-Top Cruelty”. The organization’s President, Tracy Reiman, said in a Friday release that “Cruelty takes center stage at Carden Circus, which hauls suffering animals from town to town and forces them to perform stupid tricks in front of rambunctious crowds.” Members of PETA plan to rally outside the Sheboygan Lakers Ice Arena bearing signs reading, “Animals Suffer at Carden Circuses” beginning at 3 PM on June 2nd.
Carden International Circus’ leadership including Brett and George Carden have previously responded publicly to the claims by maintaining that their animal care meets or exceeds federal standards, and that it maintains up-to-date veterinary records and possesses all necessaryt registrations and licenses required by the US Department of Agriculture.
