“Green Bay sucks!” WHAM Jake Bauers destroys a 3-run bomb at Wrigley.

This was POETRY. The Wrigley Field crowd, watching their beloved Cubs get dominated by the Brewers, and having no other option, resort to a “Green Bay sucks!” chant. And just as one fan BELLOWS out, “Green Bay sucks!” Jake aka Rake Bauers hits a ball to the God damn moon. The sound of the bat hitting the ball JUST as that fan was hitting the final syllable on ‘sucks’ was:

Inject it directly into my veins! A few other things in no particular order from last night:

• I started calling Jake Bauers, “Rake” Bauers about two seasons ago. If I’m honest, it was mostly tongue-in-cheek. He’s a career .200 hitter with some pop who is fine as a backup at first base and in the outfield. But he got a little bit better last season, then looked a lot a bit better in Spring Training this year. But would Spring Training carry over to regular season at bats?? It looks like it is. You can’t bench this guy right now. He is ripping lasers all over the field, taking walks, stealing bags, boppin’ home runs. An .872 OPS with regular playing time. And don’t get me started on this dude’s hair. I mean look at this:

He looks like a Shawn Hunter/John Stamos hybrid. Leave some for the rest of              us, Jake.

• Shota Imanaga is a really good pitcher and the Brewers just have his number. Every single time they face him I look at his numbers and think, “ooff, gonna be a tough one tonight.” And every single time they tee off on him.
• Brandon Sproat is getting there, but he still battles inconsistency. I’ve compared him many times on the podcast to 2019 Corbin Burnes. Flashes of dominance, flashes of tossing BP. Whether or not he becomes 2020 or 2021 Corbin Burnes remains to be seen, but he’s got the ‘stuff.’
• The Cubs screwing up the ABS review system in the 2nd inning last night is CLASSIC Wrigley. Always something at that dump. Wouldn’t be shocked if we get a rainout today with Miz on the mound and a 30% chance of scattered showers.

Also, I figured after the last regular season game and the Wild Card game last season that Chicago fans would be beyond a, “Green Bay sucks” chant at a baseball game that involves zero teams from Green Bay. It just reeks of, “rent free.” The next thing you know they’ll be desperate enough to write an entire song about how the Packers suck. Pathetic.

PS: Shane Drohan casually tossing 4.1 innings of scoreless relief last night as well. He’s looking like a nice piece out of the bullpen. You got him, Kyle Harrison, AND David Hamilton for Durbin?? Arnold MASTER class.
