Willson Contreras took a HBP from Brandon Woodruff, who has now hit him six times in his career

Well I, for one, am shocked at this display of over-the-top emotion from Willson Contreras last night. Maybe he’s trying to prove something during his first season in Boston? Because for a decade in Chicago and St. Louis, he was the picture of poise. Always under control, always steady, 162 games a season. Never complained, never shot his mouth off at umpire, opposing player or manager, consistently kept his composure and set a good example for the rest of the league. Last night must have just gotten away from him.
And honestly? I sort of get it. When you get hit with a fastball THAT hard? It’s probably difficult to reign in your emotions. I sit in a climate controlled studio all day, so I’m not 100% sure what it’s like to get DRILLED by a 93 mph fastball, but I can’t imagine it’s fun. So I suppose when you factor that in with the disappointing start to the season for the Red Sox, maybe it makes a bit more sense.
Anyway, all we can hope for is that he recovers from this devastating hit, shakes it off, clears concussion protocol, and returns to the field tonight. The game of baseball is better when it has stand up guys like Willson Contreras on the field. Damn shame we almost got robbed of that last night.
PS: My favorite part of last night was when they interviewed Yeli and Woodruff after the game and they just sort of rolled their eyes and said, “yeah we’ve seen this play before.” Like a child that consistently is misbehaving in class. At some point the teacher just becomes numb to it.
Double PS: LOL:

Buddy, you’ve been hit by the Brewers 24 times because:
A) You played in the NL Central for a decade and played the Brewers 18 times a season. And;
B) You stand ON TOP OF THE PLATE. Even CB Bucknor can see how on the plate you are. When you take that approach, you’re going to get hit a TON. Complaining about that would be like walking outside in the rain without an umbrella and whining about getting wet. Pound sand, dude.
Triple PS: I know it’s not going to happen but a Miz 95 mph slider high and tight tonight would be a tasty morsel. After what Contreras did to David Hamilton immediately after he got “hit,” it’s the least he deserves.
