CB Bucknor strikes again, this time saying the runner did not touch first base. He very clearly did pic.twitter.com/zn6k9RtLXl

Let me preface this blog by saying this: I could never be a Major League umpire. I probably couldn’t even be a college or high school baseball umpire. Maybe tee ball, but that’s probably it. So I acknowledge that it is a tough, and most often thankless job.
The problem we have here is that those first two sentences could also apply to CB Bucknor. CB is WIDELY regarded as the worst umpire in MLB. He took the baton of futility from Angel Hernandez and he has SPRINTED with it. He missed TWENTY (20) calls in one game over this past weekend. And if you click this link, Jomboy did a fantastic job breaking that game down on Monday.
Welp, he was at it again on Tuesday in Milwaukee. At first blush, I decided to try and give CB the benefit of the doubt. I thought to myself, “self,” I says, “maybe Jake Bauers barely touched the bag, maybe his toe just hit the side of the base, surely it will at least be close to make a call like that.” Then they showed the replay, and Jake Bauers is literally STANDING ON TOP OF THE BASE. Foot squarely in the middle of it. I was CACKLING when I saw it. And there’s ol’ CB, just staring at Front Row Amy not even looking at first base.
And that’s what makes this call even more ridiculous. He literally made it up out of thin air! Pulled directly out of his ass! He didn’t see the play, wasn’t looked at the bag, and just decided 8 seconds after the play that Jake Bauers never touched the base and called him out. Simply stunning.
I mean the only explanation here is that CB is working for the robots. The Robot Umpire Union got into his pockets in order to expedite their takeover. That’s the only conclusion I can draw for a call that bad. Both managers were laughing directly in his face, incredible!
PS: And CB is the home plate umpire today with the Miz on the mound! Imagine him trying to figure out a strike zone with Miz throwing 102 mph fastballs and 96 mph sliders?? Hold on to your butts.

Double PS: The only call I can think of that was worse in my lifetime was Jim Joyce accidently ruining Armando Galarraga’s Perfect Game:
Brutal. The difference here is that Jim Joyce was actually a solid umpire and hadn’t had a history of botching calls. Joyce was in tears in the postgame that he screwed it up. You could make a case that that call helped push replay forward.
