Complaints by residents living on roads being used by heavy equipment in the construction of a data center north of Port Washington have prompted the Ozaukee County Sheriff to begin enhanced enforcement of compliance with local road regulations. Most complaints have been received from County Highways KW and A in the areas of Belgium and Fredonia, along with State Highway 33 in the Town of Saukville and State Highway 57 in the Town of Fredonia. The Sheriff said that units are being placed in order to be visible in areas that have drawn the most complaints.
The Sheriff’s Office also said that it’s been in communication directly with construction management, whom they said have been cooperative in achieving a common goal of voluntary compliance and improved driving along the routes.
Deputies have been assigned to patrol affected areas on all three shifts, and traffic stops are being conducted with enforcement action taken when violations are observed. At the same time, the Sheriff said that many vehicles are in full compliance, which is appreciated.
Assistance is also being provided by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
