A home about a mile north of the City of Waupun went up in flames on Monday, drawing nearly two dozen responding agencies.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office received the 911 call at 1:15 PM Monday, reporting a house on Lori Lane completely engulfed in flames. Arriving Sheriff’s Deputies and Waupun Firefighters did find the southwest corner of the residence fully engulfed and quickly began controlling the fire, confirming no one was inside.
Once the fire was out, investigators traced the origins of the fire to the chimney pipe for a pellet stove where it’s suspected a spark escaped the stack, igniting dry leaves around the exterior. The owners weren’t home at the time and although fire was contained to one side, the entire structure was rendered uninhabitable due to smoke and water damage. Nobody was injured, and the incident remains under investigation.
