Lakeland University has been ranked among the best schools in the nation when it comes to its students’ social mobility.
US News and World Report has ranked Lakeland #54 among top performing schools on Social Mobility, a measure of how enabled students are to finish school and create better lives thanks to their degrees. The report noted that economically disadvantaged students are less likely than others to finish college, but Lakeland is among those who changed that by enrolling and graduating large numbers of students who were awarded Pell Grants, typically given to families with gross incomes under $50,000. Lakeland takes that a step further through the “Lakeland Promise” program that covers 100% of tuition and fees through graduation for families earning under $80,000.
Lakeland President Beth Borgen also credited the University’s Cooperative Education program, and its partnerships with the Wisconsin Technical College system.
