They may be one of the less-visible branches of the armed forces…unless you live in a city like Sheboygan on the shore of one of the Great Lakes. And the US Coast Guard – which is charged with the public safety and enforcement of the law on Lake Michigan – has named a new Great Lakes District commander.
Vice Admiral Nathan A. Moore presided over a change of command ceremony on Monday in Cleveland, Ohio, that saw Rear Admiral Russel E. Dash relieve Rear Admiral Jon P. Hickey as commander of the Great Lakes District.
While Dash now takes the helm, Hickey will become an Assistant Commandant and Program Executive Officer.
