Weather patterns and wildfires have combined for a seemingly endless stretch of smoky skies and hazy horizons, and there doesn’t appear to be any hard end date on that horizon.
The Wisconsin DNR monitors air quality, which in the case of Sheboygan County is done from Plymouth – and that reading was unhealthy for sensitive groups this morning. For now an Air Quality Alert remains in effect until noon. Those expirations have typically been extended for the past several days, and that could happen again today.
The DNR said that another round of smoke particulates will move onshore from Lake Michigan today with those closest to the lake experiencing the most unhealthy air, while counties to the west should see lighter impacts.
Forecasters say that the relatively dirty airmass is expected to linger for the next seven days or so, with either smoke or ozone likely to generate more advisories.
