Although recent rains have provided some relief from what was a very dry late spring, a moderate drought still persists across all of Sheboygan County. The latest update from the National Weather Service describes our conditions as a “Moderate Drought”, which extends to all bordering counties except Calumet. And while we didn’t see any improvement here, the northern part of Fond du Lac County did improve from “Moderate Drought” to one of “Abnormal Dryness”.
According to the National Weather Service, Sheboygan, along with much of Sauk and Columbia Counties, still has a 2-4 inch deficit of rain over the past 90 days, which amounts to 50-75% of normal.
We would usually expect around an inch of rain per week this time of year, and although we could be close to normal for the next week or two, the outlook from the Climate Prediction Center favors a return to dryer-than-normal conditions for the second half of the month.
