Unemployment rates showed overall increases in Wisconsin and the Sheboygan Area in February according to data released by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development this week.
February’s seasonally adjusted workforce of 63,700 in the Sheboygan Metro Area was an increase of 100 since January, and was 600 workers larger than February of 2024. The Area’s unemployment rate in February came in at 3%, up two-tenths from January, and three-tenths on the year.
The unemployment rate in the City of Sheboygan was 3.1%, up from 2.9% the previous month, and compares with 2.8% in February of ‘24, ranking Sheboygan among five cities with the 13th lowest rate in the state.
As a County, Sheboygan, with a 3 percent unemployment rate, ranked 3rd lowest in Wisconsin, tied with Ozaukee. The rate landed two-tenths above January, and compares with a 2.7% rate in 2024.
Statewide, preliminary February 2025 unemployment rates increased between one, and three-tenths percentage points in 12 of the 13 metro areas over the month with the exception showing no change.
While 5 of Wisconsin’s largest cities saw no change in unemployment rates, and LaCrosse saw a decrease, the remaining 29 cities saw increasing unemployment over the month. 33 of those cities saw year-over-year increases.
As for counties, preliminary February 2025 unemployment rates decreased in 10 counties, stayed the same in four, and increased in the remaining 58 counties over the month. 64 counties saw year-over-year increases.
