A blast of arctic air has invaded the area, plunging temperatures and generating life-threatening wind chills. The National Weather Service had already issued a Cold Weather Advisory for the overnight hours until 11 a.m. today; another will cover the period from 9 tonight until noon on Tuesday.
Wind chill readings this morning were mostly between 10 and 15 below zero, with incursions into the 20 below range becoming more common as winds are expected to increase during the mid morning while temperatures struggle to climb above zero. And with nighttime lows near 10 below tonight, the Tuesday morning wind chills could approach 30 below zero, conditions that threaten to cause frostbite to exposed skin within 15-30 minutes. Those needing to travel any distance should pack an emergency blanket, carry a cell phone, and let others know your plans ahead of time.

NWS Graphic
Temperatures should begin easing by midweek, but only slowly with wind chills of 20 below still possible both Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
