With the expected arrival of weather cold enough to threaten life and limb within the next 48 hours, the Sheboygan County Warming Center at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Sheboygan is likely to see some of its busiest times of the season.
Not that it hasn’t been busy already, with between 50 and 60 persons sheltered each night so far this week. But with life-threatening cold forecast to arrive this weekend and stay well into midweek following, things can only get busier.
The facility at 6th and Ontario Avenue opens its doors for emergency shelter to those 18 and older every night at 6:30 p.m. Those needing a warm, safe place to spend the night can check in up until 7:45 p.m., with admission after then only by police referral. Guests are dismissed at 7 the next morning, and anyone leaving earlier can’t re-enter.
The shelter provides a warm bed, an evening meal, breakfast items, and community information and referrals with the aim of getting permanent housing.
Those needing more information can visit their website or their Facebook page.
