Oleander released “Why I'm Here” in 1999 off the album
February Son.
Whether it's despite it's similarities to Nirvana's “Heart Shaped Box” or because of them this is Oleander's best known and highest charting song. It reached #3 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks and #13 on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks charts.
The lyrics describe people's disdain for the narrator and their indifference toward their significant other.
“Why I'm Here” was featured in the second season finale of
Dawson's Creek “Parental Discretion Advised.”
