While threats of dam failures in Waupaca County and the floodings of New Holstein and Brillion in Calumet County were front-and-center during heavy rains on Friday, the northern portions of Sheboygan County weren’t spared of significant problems from flash flooding.
The heavy rains which affected areas from the City of Sheboygan northward caused manhole covers to be blown from storm sewers at 7th and Broadway, 14th and Erie and on Calumet Drive. Flooding was also reported at South Business Drive and Washington Avenue, as well as on Taylor Drive at Kohler Memorial Drive. Further north, there were unconfirmed reports of Highway “M” being washed out south of Garton Road.
Over a half inch of rain fell on northern portions of Sheboygan County in a short time on Friday, and already-soaked soils couldn’t hold the runoff. Things were much worse to our north where rains of an inch-and-a-quarter fell on Millhome, while over 4-1/2 inches of rain was dumped in a short amount of time on Manawa in Waupaca County.
