Manitowoc County authorities have a man in custody in connection to a robbery that happened last week. The Manitowoc Police Department said the robbery occurred a little before noon on May 9th. They were dispatched to a BP Gas Station in the 2900 block of Calumet Avenue after the man, who didn’t display a weapon, fled the site with an unknown amount of cash. Police and Sheriff’s teams put their drones and K9 Rocky to the task of tracking the suspect’s movements, recovering items the man had discarded in his path. That path led to an apartment complex where private surveillance video revealed the suspect being picked up by a vehicle and departing.
It wasn’t long before authorities received reports of the suspect in Green Bay where the US Marshals Service located and took 32-year-old Justin L. Smith of Manitowoc into custody without incident. Following a preliminary investigation, Smith is now charged with Armed Robbery and Possession of THC in addition to violating conditions of probation and parole. Smith, who also had a prior felony armed robbery conviction in 2012, now awaits trial on his latest such charge.
