So, uh, we were live on the air at Jack's when the Jets won, and everyone realized they weren't drinking for free after all pic.twitter.com/VCZJNGBaym

So we blogged about this bar in Milwaukee, Jack’s Pub, about a week ago. They’re the joint that is essentially running a, ‘Jets lose, you booze’ promo. If you’re at the bar and start your tab before a Jets game that Aaron Rodgers starts in, and they lose, you get your entire tab paid for at the end of the night.
Now keep in mind, there was NO stipulation that Rodgers had to finish the game, just that he had to start the game. Which he did last night. In fact he got the whole crowd jacked up before the game even started by leading the team onto the field with the American flag on 9/11:

Nobody thought at the time that this would maybe be the only highlight of Rodgers’ career in New York, but it was an electric moment, Rodgers thoughts on 9/11 notwithstanding.
Anyway, Jack’s Pub was PACKED last night for Monday Night Football, Jets versus the Bills. As an homage to his recalcitrant mentor, Brett Favre, Rodgers played only four (4) snaps, before getting he got hit hard, hurt, and carted off of the field.
Live look at Jack’s Pub when Rodgers went down and they all thought they were going to eat and drink for free for four hours:

And I think the reporter on this story is correct, they weren’t necessarily cheering for an injury, I don’t think there’s a single Packer or NFL fan that is genuinely HAPPY that Rodgers got hurt badly. They were just stoked for a free night on the town.
Well I would imagine from that point forward, people were tallying up a BIG bill. Zach Wilson is in the game for New York, Josh Allen and the Bills have been one of the best teams in the AFC for the last three seasons, no CHANCE the Jets can win this game, right? Right??? Barkeep, I’ll take another one, and one after that to keep it company!
Well in the words of Lee Corso, NOT SO FAST MY FRIENDS! That Jets defense is LEGIT. Josh Allen morphed into Tony Romo and started turning the ball over left and right. 3 interceptions, one fumble, and really should have had two fumbles on the night. Garrett Wilson made an IMPOSSIBLE catch to tie the game, Jets eventually took a 16-13 lead, Bills force overtime on a 50 yard field goal that doinked just inside of the uprights. Cut to overtime, Bills get the ball, instantly go three-and-out, punt the ball, and the Jets return it for a game winning tuddy*. Bartender: ‘Alright, everyone’s tabs are due!’ NOOOOOOOOO. What a wild ride that must have been at Jack’s Pub. And if Rodgers’ injury is what it sounds like it is (a torn Achilles), that will be the first and last Jets promo of the season at Jack’s because Rodgers’ season appears to be done.
Related items in no particular order:
- With all of the buildup in the offseason, and Hard Knocks all August, the fact that Rodgers’ season lasted the length of a Snapchat video is mind boggling to me. The epitome of the South Park ‘annnnnd it’s gone’ gif.
- Every single person who follows the NFL knew that the Jets offensive line was going to get Rodgers killed. They were awful last season and even more awful-er this season. Why you invest the money and draft capital that they invested in a soon-to-be 40-year old former MVP quarterback and NOT invest in some big guys to protect him is beyond me. It would be like buying a $50 million dollar mansion and not paying for insurance. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
- Looks like the Packers will have to settle for that 2nd round pick in next April’s draft. Rodgers needed to play 65% of the snaps in New York this season to move that to a first rounder. He didn’t even make it .65%.
*I’ve seen cool people (Pat McAfee) start to call touchdowns, ‘tuddys.’ So I’m workshopping it. Got to keep up with the youths.
PS: I won’t lie, I did chuckle at the Rodgers memes on Twitter last night, but I’m not sure I fully understand the Packer fans that seem to be taking joy in this injury. Rodgers tenure definitely wore on people by the end of it, but we had WAY more joy on Sunday’s than not during the Rodgers Era.
