Potentially severe weather may put a damper on several area celebrations tonight, but the rest of the weekend is looking much better.
The National Weather Service advises that a line of strong to severe storms is expected to move through mainly between 4 p.m. and midnight beginning to our west. The main concern will be the potential for damaging winds that could exceed 60 miles an hour in the strongest storms, but hail and flash flooding is possible as well. Forecasters say the peak hours will likely be from 6-8 p.m., and they’re advising to prepare by securing anything that could be blown around, and to also be ready for possible power outages.
The 76th annual Holland Festival in Cedar Grove gets underway today at 3 p.m. at Memorial Park and runs till around 10 p.m., putting much of today’s activities at risk. However the remainder of the celebration on Saturday, including the street scrubbing, klompen dancers and parade should enjoy much quieter – and cooler – weather.
The Village of Random Lake also begins their 3-day picnic weekend today, but both Saturday and Sunday should have perfect weather for outdoor activities as well.
