One of my all time favorite Simpsons clips. Fun fact: This is how Lindsey and I determine who pays for dinner when we go out to eat (remember going out to eat?). 'Wow Jon, you can't even be a decent guy and pay for dinner when you go on a date? Cheap!' Listen, you unsophisticated rube, I'm a modern day gentleman. It's March 59th, the year of our Lord 2020. A guy paying for everything is antiquated. Especially when you compare the paystubs of an internet journalist and a physical therapist. This isn't Pleasantville.
Anyway, a common question posed to me during this sports black hole is, 'what are you gambling on when no games are being played?' The short answer is: nothing. The long answer is: The stock market. But degenerates of my ilk are struggling to get the rush of dopamine that comes with laying some action on an over/under.
Well our boy Edmund Hopper took it to the extreme and
bet a cool HALF MILLION
on a rock/paper/scissors game. Now there's a rush! I can't even imagine your heart rate on the third reveal of a best of three RPS match with a half a million on the line.
Unfortunately for the two combatants, Quebec (
love to go fishing in Quebec
) law only allows gambling on contests of skill, not pure luck, which they deemed RPS to be. Try telling that to these folks:
Wickedfingers is an ALL TIME nickname. Although I'm not sure I would land on 'RPS Professional' if you just told me your nickname was Wickedfingers. We won't get into my guesses because this is a family show but I think you're picking up what I'm laying down.
PS: Do you call it, 'rock/paper/scissors,' or, 'roshambo'? I think it depends on what area of the world you live in, but after an extensive google search (I clicked on the top two links), I can't figure out why some people call it that. The loosest explanation is that it's a tip of the cap to a French general, Comte de Rochambeau, who fought against the British during the Revolutionary War. What the link is to rock/paper/scissors is, I haven't the foggiest. But that's what I found. The more you know (?).
