Repairs to one of Sheboygan’s busiest intersections will take a little longer than initially projected according to a release from the City of Sheboygan Department of Public Works on Tuesday. It was hoped that work could wrap up by Wednesday the 18th, but the DPW now expects that it may take until Monday the 23rd for storm sewer and pavement repairs of the intersection of 14th and Erie Avenue to be completed. As always, repair schedules are subject to change due to the weather.
Crews first noticed failure of the pavement at the intersection on January 5th, and a partial closure was immediately emplaced. Inspection showed that a 36-inch storm sewer pipe had broken beneath the intersection, which drew soil into the pipe, leaving behind a large and growing void beneath the pavement. Repairs “not to exceed $215,000” were approved through a no-bid contract with Buteyn-Peterson Construction Company, to be paid through transfers from the city’s General Fund to the Stormwater Funds.
Until repairs are complete, traffic is highly restricted through the intersection, and motorists are being encouraged to use alternate routes.
