A Sheboygan native has been named to be the director of the Wisconsin Office of Credit Unions, under the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions. The announcement was made on Tuesday by DFI Secretary-designee Cheryll Olson-Collins.
Thomas E. Theune, a 39-year veteran of the credit union industry, began his directorship on January 3rd, filling the vacancy created when former director Kim Santos retired in October of last year.
As the director, Theune will lead a staff of 20 employees and oversee all activities for the Office of Credit Unions, “which regulates state-chartered credit unions and is dedicated to ensuring the safety and soundness of those institutions while fostering their development through a progressive regulatory environment” according to the release.
Theune has served the Office of Credit Unions since January of 2014. Prior to that he had also served as president and CEO of Electrical Federal Credit Union in Arvada, Colorado, as well as several other Colorado credit institutions. The Sheboygan native attended UW-M before moving to Colorado in 1983. He currently resides with his wife and two children in Fitchburg.
