National Weather Service Graphic Forecast for the Sheboygan Area 12-23-22 6AM – 12-25-22 6AM
While the winter storm now moving through most of the Midwest and Great Lakes may not have done everything it was feared in the Sheboygan area so far, that’s a good thing…but it’s still not good and conditions will remain life-threatening for anyone stranded or caught outdoors for at least another day.
The half-foot snowfalls didn’t materialize, but the several inches that did fall, lifted by high winds, was sufficient to create poor visibility in open country, and although those winds haven’t yet reached the 50 mph gusts, that threat now appears poised to peak for midday Friday. Still, winds gusting over 40 mph will likely remain until early Sunday morning, presenting a continuing problem of blowing snow and the potential to down trees and power lines.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 a.m. on Saturday for the combination of cold temperatures, high winds, dangerous wind chills and potential ground-blizzard conditions.
Temperatures remaining at or below zero through early Saturday morning, combined with those winds, will create life-threatening wind chills for anyone exposed to them for long periods of time, and unprotected skin could become frostbitten in under 30 minutes.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who’s gone off the road to stay in their vehicles, which is your safest option, and any abandoned cars will be towed unless conditions become too dangerous. Manitowoc County officials, meanwhile, have issued a tow ban, saying that they will not be removing cars from ditches and those posing no danger to traffic until conditions improve.
