After his predecessor, Scott Walker, finished his 8 years in office without granting a single pardon, Governor Evers on Thursday issued another 54, bringing his total so far to 391, the most of any Wisconsin Governor. Two area persons are among the latest group.
Neil Verbanac, a truck driver living in Random Lake, was one of those pardoned Thursday. He was 24 years old when he stole materials from job sites he worked on over thirty years ago. Another person from the lakeshore area pardoned yesterday was Richard Bouril of Manitowoc. He was 17 years old when he sold marijuana to a confidential informant 38 years ago. He went on to be a cafe owner in Manitowoc and became deeply involved in that community where he currently resides.
Those receiving pardons will now be able to serve on a jury, hold public office, and hold certain professional licenses they’d previously been denied. Their court records, though, remain intact.
